The previous picture shows the Pdf Pup Pro main screen.
It may look a little different depending on what version you have. There will be occasional updates as needed which may alter the look of the software a little bit in the future.
By the way, if there are any future updates for the software, you won't need to do anything. The software automatically checks for updates each time you start it up, and if there is a new update available, it will ask if you would like to install it.
Simply accept the update and the software will do the rest. Very simple!
Ok so here's the breakdown of the different parts of the main screen.
1. This is the window that will show a list of the PDF files you will be adding pop up boxes too. Yes, you can edit PDF's in bulk!
2. This is where you'll select the PDF's that you want to edit. Simply navigate to wherever they are on your computer and click ok. You'll see them listed in window 1 to confirm that you have selected the file(s).
3. If you need to delete a PDF out of window 1, then simply delete it with this option.
4. Select where you want your edited PDF(s) to end up once they're done being edited.
5. Click this to continue on to Step 2, "Choose Actions".
Here's what step 2 looks like. This is where you'll be able to add pop up boxes your PDF files, which will show up on each entry and exit of the PDF file.
You'll notice that there are two different tabs here.
We have the "On Open File" menu open, so whatever parameters we set will applied to the PDF when it's opened. When you select the "On Close File" you'll see the same screen, but you'll be working on the pop up that shows when the PDF file is closed.
No matter which tab you have selected, the menu below is still the same.
If you have "NO ACTION" selected, you will not have a pop-up box show up on your PDF file. In this example, we have the "On Open File" tab selected and "NO ACTION" selected.
If we kept these options, our finished PDF will not have a pop-up box displayed when opening up the PDF.
You also have the option of adding a subscription form pop-up box, or a simple message pop-up box.(Only available in the Pdf Pop Up PRO version - www.pdfpuppro.com)
You'll need to select the radio button next to the one you want, and then click on the actual button itself to go into editing mode.
When you click on this, you'll see the following screen (for the "Add Message Box").
Here's a breakdown of what you can edit to create your own custom message pop-up.
1. Message Box Title: You can edit the title of the pop-up box here. It's just like the title of a web page, where you'll see it in the browser window. So just put something simple that describes what the message is for like "Thanks for your interest"
2. Message: This is where you'll put the actual message that you want to display infront of the reader.
3. Icon: This is where you'll select the icon that displays inside of the pop-up. I usually just put an Information bubble, but you can choose from Error, Warning, or Question if you want.
4. Icon Preview: This is simply a preview of what the icon you selected looks like.
5. Message Box Type: Here is where you'll pick what you want your reader to do (in other words, what action you want them to take) once they've read your message. For example, if you say "Click Ok to proceed to my website, or click cancel to return to the book", you can create an event that takes them to your website when they click ok, or when the click cancel, it will close the popup.
6. Type Buttons Preview: This is a preview of what you've selected in step 5.
7. Available Events: Here's where you'll edit what the buttons in your pop-up will do. This box will change depending on what you selected in step 5. In our example, we have selected "Ok" in step 5, so we'll see actions that we can apply to the Ok button. I want my users to go to my website if they click "Ok" in the pop-up, so I'll edit the "OnClickOk - Open Web Page" option by selecting it. When you select it, you'll see the following input field pop up underneath the menu.
Then click on the button with the ">>" arrow to add the event.
8. Added Events: The "OnClickOk - Open Web Page" event is now added to the PDF with http://www.pdfpuppro.com added as the destinaton URL.
You've now added a message pop-up box to your PDF file that will appear when someone opens your PDF file!
It will look like this:
Now we can add a message box also on the OnCloseFile event
Just Click the "On Close File" tab and repeat the same steps made for the "On Open File".
All you do is click the Generate Files button in the last windows, and PDFPupFree will quickly add the pop up's to your PDF file.
The new PDF file will show up wherever you had chosen it to go to in Step 1 under "Output Directory". It will be the same name as your original PDF but withan addition "_pup" extension added to the name. You can edit this back to the original file name if you'd like.
And that's it! Click Restart to edit another PDF or if you're done, simply close out of the program and kick back for awhile.
